Zoran’s RB26 Swapped Rocket Bunny S14

It takes little convincing to buy anything that has been RB26 swapped. But for Zoran, he’d seen first-hand all the fun to be had through his brother George’s RB26/30 powered S15 Silvia.
Having sold his Golf R that had been his daily. Zoran wanted an alternative fun daily that was still modifiable and JDM.
It was George who found the car, and like his S15, the 200SX S14 already had the RB swap complete—making for a lot less headache and more time to spend on aesthetics.
An RB26 200SX S14 is not a bad starting point
A meticulous previous owner in Canberra heavily modified the car. So besides the RB26 swap from an R34 GTR, the S14 came with a genuine Vertex body kit. As well as TE37SL wheels, a re-trimmed suede interior and a full respray in a custom pearl white finish.
Back in the day, you might’ve seen the plates “FK UR SR” on the car. Needless to say. It was a turnkey package, but new beginnings come with new ownership.
Things don't always go to plan
The original plan was to keep the car as a fun daily while Zoran and his brother worked on their Mazda RX2. However, it became clear that there was way more enjoyment from the S-Chassis than expected.
Having owned the RX2 for 14 years, it was a challenging decision to make. However, the car had been in their possession for almost a decade.
But the car ultimately changed hands, allowing him to direct all his attention and resources towards the S14. It wouldn’t be the last time they would see a rotary in their garage, though.
Building a Rocket Bunny S14
Miura’s grey Rocket Bunny S14 had always been a massive inspiration. So Zoran set his sights on creating his adaptation using the project car he’d just acquired. After ordering the Rocket Bunny Boss V2 kit from Garage 88, work began on a preparation checklist before the body parts arrived.
The first thing on the checklist was to sort out suspension. Knowing that the new kit gave a generous amount of space for some serious wheel and tyre fitment. Zoran opted to go for an Air Lift Performance kit. “The airbags and Rocket Bunny S14 kit are a winning combination as the car needs to sit low”.
Getting the S14 aesthetics right
Once the Rocket Bunny S14 kit arrived, the car went to 2SUS Custom Resprays in Sydney to get test fitted and primed for paint. Again, Zoran saw the chance to make a subtle change to the colour. – “From the start, I knew the colour was going to be Mazda pearl white; I had always liked that colour”.
It was helpful having seen the Rocker Bunny S14 body kit on the car before the paint hit any panels. Zoran knew the car needed different wheels to match the new body lines and fill those guards.
Going back to Garage88 to help solve this problem, Zoran ordered a set of Work Meister L1s to accentuate the muscle car aesthetic. The wheels ordered are a massive 18×11 / 18×13 wrapped in NT01 275/35 and 315/30’s – monstrous for an S Chassis.
A second-hand set of R33 GTR Brembo brakes were powder coated in red. Finally, a collection of slotted DBA rotors capped off the car’s comprehensive wheel and suspension setup.
The RB26 swap is mild (for now)
Now unlike his brother’s S15, the engine setup for Zoran’s Rocket Bunny S14 is tame. The RB26 features basic flow mods like exhaust, intake and custom piping thanks to Dahtone racing. The car put out 370hp on 98 fuel which he said was plenty for his own needs.
Truthfully if he needed a built RB26 kick, I’m sure his brother wouldn’t have minded lending him the keys to the RB26 S15. That is one of the perks of having a sibling who is also into cars!
Bride seats and Alcantara are a winning combination
The interior remains unchanged. Some highlights and neat touches from the previous owner include a fully re-trimmed Alcantara interior. Bride Stradia seats, Nismo shift knob, complete interior audio upgrade. Along with the crowning interior piece, the AGI Engineering half cage (finished in candy red).
Creating long life long memories
Although the RB26 is only lightly modified, there’s still an element of anxiety about getting a car back from the builders. There’s always a chance for obscure things not to go smoothly. Considering the Rocket Bunny S14 was due to be the wedding reception car for Zoran’s wedding. The nerves were high, and the car had to run flawlessly for the big day.
Fortunately, the car never skipped a beat during the wedding. Creating a lifelong memory for Zoran to cherish with his family and friends.
The Rocket Bunny S14 was never the dream
As incredible as it was for Zoran and George to both own RB26 swapped S-Chassis. The brothers ended up both parting with their cars to pursue new projects.
George ended up sticking to the RB platform and picking up a Series 3 R33 GTR, which recently has undergone a single turbo conversion at Dahtone Racing. In comparison, Zoran ended up going back to rotaries.
His most recent acquisition is a 2001 FD RX-7 that has recently hit the shores of Australia from Japan. With Covid still in full swing, both brothers have plenty of idle time to think about their to-do list for both of their new cars. So stay tuned to see what’s in store!
Special thanks
